Sustainable Development School Award Programme
Objectives
- To raise students' understanding of the concept of Sustainable Development (SD) and their awareness of the importance of SD;
- To encourage students to adopt sustainable practices in their daily lives and to spread the SD message to their families and the community; and
- To create a sustainable community network at district level and enhance the community building capacity of schools to facilitate participation and collaboration with other parties in organising SD-related activities.

- Members of the community, and / or district organisations and institutions

Theme
Promoting Zero-carbon Energy, Energy Saving and Decarbonisation
(Zero-carbon energy refers to energy which does not generate carbon emissions during their production or usage, e.g. solar energy.)
Programme Contents
This programme includes two categories of award (Schools are welcome to join both categories):
1. Sustainable Development Participation Award | |
---|---|
Requirement: | Have participated in at least two SD-related activities (at least one of the activities must be in line with the theme of "Promoting Zero-carbon Energy, Energy Saving and Decarbonisation). |
No. of attendance: | At least 300 students |
Remarks: | The qualifying activities could be activities organised by the Environment and Ecology Bureau or other organisations. Participation in activities under the SD School Outreach Programme would be counted as one activity only. Students learning SD-related knowledge |
2. Sustainable Development Community Project Award | |
---|---|
Requirement: | Have organised activities or projects in the community to promote the concept of SD to parents, members of the community, and / or district organisations and institutions. Students promoting SD concept to the members of the community |
No. of attendance: | At least 300 participants |
Events: | All events organised should be effectively promoted the concept of SD. At least one of the activities must be in line with the theme of "Promoting Zero-carbon Energy, Energy Saving and Decarbonisation". |
Awards: | Schools that have received "SD Community Project Award" may additionally award the following Prizes: 1. Outstanding Performance Award

In order to encourage more schools to participate in the Programme, reimbursement will be made for the costs incurred for participating in the activities.
The maximum amount of reimbursement for participating schools of the programme is as follows:
- "SD School Participation Award" - HK$ 2,500
- "SD Community Project Award" - HK$ 12,500
All secondary schools are welcome to participate. The application which sent out in July 2023 has closed on 20 September 2023.
