Anti-Rodent Work Plan Undertaken by the Housing Department

Anti-rodent-Action

The Hong Kong Housing Authority (HA) has all along been attaching great importance to hygiene conditions in Public Rental Housing (PRH) estates, and providing full support to the Government’s anti-rodent work. Various cleansing operations and rodent control measures, including strengthening regular cleaning and inspection work, focusing efforts in tackling hygiene black spots, enhancing publicity and education, setting the key performance indicators, stepping up enforcement action and inspections, combatting illegal animal/ bird feeding, etc. have been conducted in all 193 PRH estates under HA.

HA will continue to select 80 priority estates per year to intensify anti-rodent measures, publicity and education works. Starting from January 2023, a series of new measures have been implemented in all PRH estates to continuously strengthen the cleanliness and rodent control works. Residents may provide information of rodent black spots through questionnaire or website using the suggestion boxes, QR code or the hyperlink set up regularly at the ground floor lobby of each domestic block with a view to speeding up the investigation and follow up action against rodent problem. To enhance the effectiveness of rodent control, we had devised Anti-rodent Work Plans for all PRH estates, used Anti-rodent Work Checklists, as well as applied new device and the trial use of new types of rodent bait boxes and rodent traps such as T-shape bait boxes, square-shape bait boxes and Ekomille. In addition to the setting up of night time patrol team to intensify anti-rodent operations, additional resources had been allocated to the installation of mobile digital closed circuit television system with built-in motion detection detector to detect rodent activities at locations with serious rodent infestation in estates. We will formulate targeted anti-rodent measures according to the information of rodent activities.

Maintaining a good environment and hygiene in estates relies on the co-operation of both residents and shop tenants. We will arrange joint cleaning operations with various stakeholders (including other owners, shop tenants, etc.) and relevant governmental departments with a view to maintaining a clean and hygienic environment of dwelling place, shops and community and carrying out the anti-rodent work at estates properly.
