Anti-Rodent Work Plans Undertaken by the Highways Department
The Highways Department (HyD) proactively participates in the "Cross-sectoral Territory-wide Anti-rodent Action". For the new works and maintenance works managed by HyD, we have requested the resident site staff and contractors to conduct site inspections and rodent prevention works according to the Code of Practice on Rodent Management issued by the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department.
In order to prevent adult rodents from entering into the surface drainage system, HyD has designed and initially installed a new type of gully gratings with small grating spacing at selected rodent black spots in Wan Chai, Shum Shui Po, Kowloon City, Shatin and Tsuen Wan for performance evaluation. The installation works commenced in December 2022 and were substantially completed in March 2023.
